Studium and Punctum

This image is from a home invasion we had. It shows studium through its normal object function, the image is about the shades. The punctum is seen with the broken shades and blood splatters, which then gives a sense of emotion to the reader.
This is from Sally Mann. The image shows Punctum because the childs swollen eye is the part that stands out the most, one could question the reason for it and to everyone there would be a different assumption. The child itself is the studium, it is the aboutness of the image.

  1. Melissa,
The bottom image certainly does have a punctum - the swollen eye reminds me of the Sally Mann image of her daughter, Victoria in the arm chair.
We want to see your image, too!

  2. Great image of the home invasion - kind of scary and actually knowing what it is gives an entirely different feeling to the image.
