Studium and Punctum

This is an image from Minor White: Untitled, 72 North Union Street, Rochester, NY. The punctum for me is the cracks and chipping paint on the closed door. It makes me think that something may be locked in there, especially since they lead up to the deadbolt.

This is a photo I took of a royal tomb in a church we visited on vacation. The punctum for me is the darkness in the ruffles of the queen's collar. It's incredible to me that the sculptors carved so deeply.

  1. Your top image is very unique because it makes me wonder what is behind the door (Jeepers Creepers)and makes me think back to how I was a little, afraid to turn off the lights. Good image !! ~Jessie M.

  2. I agree that I am wondering what is behind the doors. However, the fish for me is the punctum, where I am wondering/what is this room??
